The aim of my project is to find out what leisure pursuits are popular with teenagers in Zetland. As part of my project, I have found a table with some results of relevant opinion polls, and in this essay I will describe the data and express my opinion on the subject of the project.  

 

According to the table, playing computer games (37%) is the most popular leisure pursuit, followed by meeting friends and watching films, at 26% and 23% respectively. Doing sports is a much less popular way to spend free time, constituting only 10% of the total, and the “Reading books” response makes up a mere 4%.      

 

Interestingly, the figure for watching films is more than five times as high as the figure for reading books (23% and 10% respectively). This difference might be explained by the fact that teenagers are increasingly drawn to visual media and digital entertainment.  

One problem that can arise with adolescents' leisure pursuits is the excessive use of screen-based activities, such as video gaming and social media. Excessive screen time can lead to sedentary behavior, reduced physical activity and potential negative impacts on mental health. To solve this problem, it is important to promote a balanced approach to leisure activities among teenagers. Encouraging participation in a variety of activities, including physical exercise, creative hobbies, can help reduce excessive screen time and promote overall well-being. Providing access to recreational facilities, sports clubs and cultural events can offer alternative options for leisure activities.    

In conclusion, I firmly believe that leisure is essential in teenagers' lives because it provides opportunities for relaxation, personal growth and the development of various skills and interests.
