It is not a secret that living in the megapolis is not as simple as it seems. The aim of my project is to examine what problems residents of Zetland large cities face. I have found a table with some data on this subject. In this essay I am going to analyse my findings.

 

As can be seen from the table, 44% of the respondents cite traffic jams as the main problem. The next factor is too many migrants. This problem comes in second place with 21%. Another key fact is that only a small minority of people (6%) are concerned about high crime rate.

 

The table also shows that the problem of the industrial pollution is three times as frequently named by the respondents as high crime rate (18% and 6% respectively). Nowadays every big city has a sophisticated security system and citizens are cautious about their safety, so the rate of criminal incidents is constantly decreasing. At the same time the number of enterprises and cars on the roads is increasing, leaving a negative mark on the environment and causing harm to a large number of people.

 

It is obvious that the importance of city problems varies with each age group. For example, teenagers, being psychologically immature, can be easily involved in criminal activities. In order to solve the problem, parents, schools and the local authorities should organize interesting and socially useful events that can appropriately channel young people’s energies. (53 words)

 

I think that despite some measures one can take to improve the quality of life in large urban areas, the disadvantages of living there generally outweigh the advantages. Today, it is practically impossible to reduce air and noise pollution and prevent overpopulation and poverty.
