Hello Liza, I’ve found two photos for our project and I’d like to discuss them with you.
In the first picture there are two women dressed up in bright costumes and posing for the camera at a carnival. The second picture depicts a young girl dressed in a folk costume and sitting at a table at home. Both photos are relevant for our project because they both show different types of dressing up for cultural festivals. The key difference is that the first picture demonstrates fancy dress costumes for the annual Venice Carnival, while in the second photo there is an example of a folk Slavic costume.
I believe that the two types of dressing up for cultural festivals presented in the pictures have their advantages and disadvantages. Masquerade costumes allow individuals to express their uniqueness and imagination by creating a one-of-a-kind character. However, they can be uncomfortable, restrict movement, and cause discomfort. On the other hand, dressing up in traditional costumes reflects unique identities and visual styles, allowing for the preservation and transmission of historical heritage and cultural values, but the design of folk costumes can lead to misunderstandings outside the cultural environment.
Personally, I would prefer to dress up in a traditional costume for a cultural holiday because it allows me to honor and appreciate the rich heritage and customs of my culture.
