There are many activities that adolescents can do in their leisure time. The aim of the project I am currently working on is to explore how teenagers in Zetland prefer to spend their free time. As part of my project, I have found a table with some data on the subject, which I am going to analyse.
As can be seen from the table, 45% of the respondents cite going for a walk with friends as the most popular way to spend their spare time. The next activity is going to the cinema. It comes in second place with 22%. Visiting music festivals, mentioned by a small minority of teenage boys and girls (5%), is the least common thing that adolescents do during their free time.
The table also shows that shopping in the mall, which is in third position with 15%, is five times as popular as visiting music festivals. It is evident that shopping malls where teenagers can hang out are everywhere, while music festivals are held mainly in large cities.
One problem that can arise with ways of spending free time is that many teenage boys and girls waste their leisure time watching useless videos and playing video games. They miss a great number of opportunities. To solve this problem parents should devote more time to teenagers, offering and encouraging other activities in their free time.
In conclusion, I am sure that going to the theatre is the best way to spend free time, because it provides an opportunity for cultural exploration, as it exposes individuals to different genres, styles, and narratives.
